to the businesses of the parish and to non-parish businesses that might
want to advertise on the Shap website.

with how my website has
done. I have had lots of interest. Most of it not from the Lakes
area, which suggests to me that people havent just been browsing
round the Shap and Cumbria connections but that I have been picked
up on the search engines. I think this is quite a feat as there are
a lot of big fish out there to compete with. I am sure. Also, although
it is not proof that this has not happened, I have had no compliants
about not being able to get on to the site or contact me via the
site. This suggests to me that the webmaster is maintaining the Shap
site and it satellites well.
The webmaster has also always been prompt and helpful in responding to
any questions or problems I have had".

couple of days ago re the Shap Community Web Site, may I add as
a Guest House Proprietor this must be very beneficial to us all.

unable to monitor hits to our web site, I frequently hear
of referrals via the site.
I, as an individual frequently 'click
on' to enjoy the whole site, and sincerely hope that it is able
to continue.

How to add your business
You can advertise here even
if your business is outside the parish (for example a holiday home
elsewhere in the country). Depending on the level you choose, you
can use your Shap website advertisment to capture enquiries, or even
take orders or make sales.
Advertising Your Business on the Shap Website
All parish
businesses, or businesses belonging to a resident of the parish,
are entitled to a presence on the Shap web site. Shap businesses can
be represented in a number of different ways on the site:
Standard
Directory Entry - this is rather like a business card on the web,
with information such as your name, address and contact details
plus a single sentence describing the nature of the business. A Contact
Us email facility and link to your website can also be included. This
type of entry will allow users of the site to make direct contact
with you and your business. They will be able to send you an email containing
details of their enquiry.
Cost: £12.50 +VAT pa
Single Page Web Site - a full page of information about
your business. The design and layout of the page can be provided
by you, or we can design the page to suit your
requirements. Again, like a directory entry, a link can be provided
through to your own site, if you have one. You can display up-to 3 photographs
of your business (supplied by you).
Cost: £35 + VAT pa
Changing Your Own Content - It is possible to provide advertisers
with the capability of changing their own web page content
as often as they wish. This will involve the purchase of a special
piece of software, training in its use can be obtained from
the CDC.

e-Commerce
- The Shap Community website is able to support online sales. So
if you are a business looking to sell your products but do not have
the funds to build your own website then you are able to setup shop
here. The website and software supports PayPal credit card payments
which can be built into your page within a day and by using PayPal
you will be able to accept credit card orders from anywhere in the
world.
Cost: a one off fee of £10 per item you wish to sell.
Everyday, more and more individuals and companies
worldwide are being linked electronically. If you
are new to the internet, then your local community
web site offers you the chance to make a start
at a relatively low cost.

Non Shap Businesses - If a business does not have a Shap post
code, it can still advertise in the website business section. However,
there will be a 20% premium on the Shap post code prices.
